Date Edo period

Gold maki-e brushwood fencing and chrysanthemum flowers are applied over a foundation of tsume nashi-ji, formed by spreading fine gold powder without leaving any gaps. A window with a genji-ko pattern (five vertical slits) has been left open. Compact and elegant, this piece is thought to have belonged to a woman of a certain status.
