A work by Harunobu Suzuki, said to be the originator of the polychrome woodblock print. Mount Matsuchi is a small mountain by the Sumida River at behind Asakusa Temple. It used to be a popular sightseeing spot and was well known for its elevated view of the streets of Edo (Tokyo).
Here we see men and women portrayed in a charmingly child-like manner, amusing themselves at dice while sitting at a kotatsu leg-warmer. Human portraits like this were characteristic of Harunobu.
