The title of this picture is a pun on "Omi Hakkei", a well- known selection of eight outstanding views around Lake Biwa. The subtitle "Yukiri-no Bosetsu" (Snowfall in Evening Mist) is also in imitation of "Hira-no Bosetsu", one of the eight views of Omi. From this we know that the picture is of the Yoshiwara courtesan Yukiri. Her posture as she sits on a kotatsu leg-warmer (a pose she would never adopt in front of a client) suggests that she is in her own room, perhaps reading a letter from a lover.
